About us

Since Chambers was established by Alison Ball QC in 1989, our aim has been to provide strength in depth across the complete range of family law.

We believe that an effective family set must combine an approachable and friendly manner with the efficient accessibility of a business.

With 62 tenants across all lengths of call, we are able to provide a comprehensive service. We have grown steadily to the point where 1 Garden Court is recognised as one of the foremost sets of Chambers in which all members specialise in family law - we are proud of our aggregate ranking for both Family:Children and Family Finance in the legal directories. In 1997 we became the first set to create a Family Mediation Service and since 2007 we have established expertise in the Court of Protection.

1 Garden Court has seven specialist family practice teams, each of which is convened by one or two senior members of Chambers. The teams meet regularly to discuss developments in their field of family law and to organise educational events.

The present teams are: Family Finance Team;Care and Adoption;Child Abduction,International and Private Child Law; Local Authorities;Court of ProtectionMediation;Human Rights Working Group.

Clerking is provided by a team of 8 headed by our Senior Clerk, Howard Rayner.

Chambers is based at 1 Garden Court in the Temple. Chambers' clerking is computerised so that members have full net access to diaries, mail and legal research.

The legal profession is in the midst of an unprecedented period of change. By continual review and devlopment of our specialist practices in family law and our clerking methods we believe that we will be equipped to respond in these changes. In addition we are committed to working in closer partnership with our instructing solicitors to ensure that we can meet our clients' needs in a demanding future.
