Practice Profile
Doushka’s practice covers all aspects of family law; she is experienced in representing both private and local authority parents, or children through their guardian, and regularly acts for a number of local authorities in all types of care proceedings. She is particularly familiar with child abuse cases involving sexual, physical and emotional harm as well as non-accidental injuries, and has been involved in cases which have resulted in criminal proceedings.

She advises on all types of disputes involving children whether they are domestic or international, including child abduction under the Hague Convention. She has firsthand knowledge coupled with an appreciation of the cultural differences which may need to be taken into account when dealing with such cases; and she can offer expert knowledge of both private law proceedings and care proceedings - either on behalf of the parents or the local authorities. She advises on contact and residence disputes between estranged couples who are going through separation or divorce proceedings.

She is committed to delivering client care of the highest standard and takes a sensitive and friendly approach towards clients. The loyalty and enduring relationships she has built with Local Authorities and solicitors are a testament to this.

Doushka is dedicated to protecting the rights, integrity and the safety of the family without losing sight of the welfare of the children who are subject of proceedings. She is used to making ex parte applications to secure the location of children who have been abducted, in order that the matter can in due course be properly decided by the Court. The advice and advocacy she provides serves to assure her clients that they will receive the best guidance, particularly in sensitive cases where issues are often subject to rapid and frequent changes.

Personal, including interests

Doushka is a devoted mother and enjoys very much spending time with her family. She is keen on yoga and although here she is a qualified instructor her already very busy life prevents her from teaching her own classes. She is widely travelled and speaks French and also has a basic understanding of German. She has a keen personal interest in homes for destitute children in Sri Lanka.
