Practice Profile

Andrew practises in both Family Law and Court of Protection cases. Within the family law field, he practises exclusively in cases involving children both in private and public law proceedings. Andrew accepts public access instructions.

 

Within private law proceedings, Andrew acts for parents and other adults involved in difficult disputes relating to children. He frequently represents children acting through their court appointed Guardian. He is particularly experienced in long running contentious disputes. He is a trained mediator.

 

Within public law proceedings, Andrew regularly represents Local Authorities, particularly in cases where serious life threatening injuries have occured. He regularly conducts fact finding hearings involving complex medical issues.

 

Many of Andrew's cases have an international element. He advises local authorities on placement of children overseas, adoptions with international elements and frequently receives instructions cases involving either child abduction or concerns over Forced Marriage.

 

Within the Court of Protection Andrew regularly receives instruction from the Official Solicitor to the Superior Courts to represent the protected party and from Local Authorities engaged in disputes relating to Deprivation of Liberty issues.

Seminars and lectures

Andrew is regularly invited to provide training on legal developments and has written and presented courses on changes to statute to enable Local Authorities to be prepared for new procedures and concepts.

In 2012 he is schedule to provide advocacy training to newly qualified Local Authority lawyers to enable them better to conduct their own hearings.

He has delivered seminars as part of the ongoing 1 Garden Court CPD programme and also recorded podcasts on various aspects of the law.
