The London Borough of Wandsworth v M, A, C, J [2017] EWHC 2435 (Fam)

Three members of chambers, Julien Foster, Rachel Gillman and Lucy Sprinz, appeared in the case of The London Borough of Wandsworth v M, A, C, J [2017] EWHC 2435 (Fam) before Hayden J in which judgment was handed down on Friday 6 October. The case involved three brothers who developed a 'narcissistic cult' mentality and came to believe there was no point leaving home, socialising or going to school. The case in respect of the eldest child involved detailed consideration of the interim test for capacity under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and of the inherent jurisdiction in relation to vulnerable adults.

The case has been reported in The Guardian, The Times, The Daily Mail and BBC News.

In his judgment Mr Justice Hayden said that Rachel Gillman "put her case with great fidelity to her client's instructions and with considerable sensitivity" and that she had "effectively highlighted ... that M loves each of her children greatly" The Judge also referred to Lucy Sprinz, "whose careful reflections on these issues I found to be both impressive and helpful".

The case has also been published on Bailii.
