Practice Overview
Monica has a thriving practice in all areas of family law, representing clients in both private and public law family proceedings concerning children, and disputes in respect of matrimonial finances. She is repeatedly instructed by solicitors, with outstanding testimonials from both lay clients, professional clients, and the judiciary.
Monica joined chambers in September 2023 after completion of her pupillage. Prior to joining 1GC, Monica worked as an in-house Advocate, at a London firm, conducting trials and hearings in county court civil matters. Monica has worked closely with a wide variety of clients and witnesses and has experience of conducting client conferences, witness handling, and drafting pleadings, advice and orders.
During her law degree Monica volunteered at the Bristol Law Clinic, working closely with qualified solicitors and advising lay clients on a range of common law matters and procedural issues.

Children (Private Law)
Monica appears in private cases about children including where allegations of complex domestic or sexual abuse are made, contested international and internal relocation cases, intractable contact disputes, and where the local authority or a children’s guardian are involved. Monica is also frequently instructed to represent the children’s guardian in private law matters.
Monica acts for clients at all stages of private children applications including final hearings and fact-finding hearings.

Children (Public Law)
In care proceedings Monica appears for local authorities, children’s guardians, parents and other family members in cases including historical abuse allegations, parents with physical disabilities, complex neurological disorders, and other complicating factors.
Monica also has experience in applications for secure accommodation and deprivation of liberty orders representing the child, parents and the local authority.

Family Finance & Property
Monica also represents clients in financial remedy proceedings following the breakdown of relationships including contested hearings in which claims are made under TOLATA. Monica is regularly instructed to appear at all stages of finance proceedings, including FDA’s, FDRs, and final hearings.

Domestic Abuse & Injunctions
Mother regularly receives instructions in matters where individuals are seeking or responding to applications for injunctions relating to domestic abuse and occupation of the family home.
